Loft conversion with two new dormers and a new staircase connecting different levels.
The house required a full refurbishment and the clients wished to extend into the loft to create a large family home for letting.
Critical to this project was the design of the staircase to access the new loft extensions without compromising the floor below. The two lofts were at different levels, one in the main roof space and one in the lower roof to the rear. The solution was a ‘bridge staircase’ together with a new roof light above which increases the head height and floods both floors with light.
As part of the refurbishment a pair of stained glass windows were designed to match the tiles in the fireplace.
Project carried out at Marcus Beale Architects
The new roof light brings light down to the floor below.
The two windows either side of the fireplace had been boarded up. As they looked onto a side passage some stained glass windows were designed to match the tiles in the fireplace.
