Cleaning and repairs to historic boarding houses

Historic boarding housed refurbished

At the heart of St John’s School is the formal three sided School Quad flanked by the Grade II listed historic buildings: Dining Hall to the north, Main Building to the south with the boarding houses and cloister to the east.

The boarding houses, Gloucester North and Monty, were built between 1891 and 1898. Unsightly modern additions to the rear were demolished prior to the main conservation works and the project involved repairing the damage and reinstating windows that had been removed.

Conservation works included: new cast iron hoppers and rainwater goods reinstated to original pattern;  stone and masonry cleaning and repointing; slate and lead roof repairs; overhauling the copper flèche; overhauling the windows and installing new.
