Old stables converted

Conversion of offices to residential

A conversion of a redundant two storey office building that extends into a rear yard behind the High Street in Caterham town centre.  The building was originally a stable block.
The long narrow building with a single aspect has been converted into one two-storey house and two flats.  The location is very central with good transport connections and provides new and much needed accommodation.

The ridge of the roof was raised slightly to improve habitable accommodation to the first floor and the vaulted ceilings add a little unexpected drama within such modest dwellings.
Rooflights have been used to bring more daylight into the top floor rooms, insulation levels were improved, acoustic separation achieved, awkward level changes resolved, all within an extremely tight footprint.

The project was completed on time and on budget and all three units sold almost immediately.
