A subterranean gym

A new gym created in an unused existing basement courtyard between the boundary wall and the south west side of the Grade II listed Cape Dutch style residence. This is a Conservation Area so ensuring the roof line of the gym tucked in below the coping of the boundary wall means it is invisible from the street. The lead roof is traditional and so sympathetic with the detailing of the original house.
The gym has glazed external doors opening onto a flight of external stone steps leading up to the rear garden, with well established ferns and palms bringing the garden into the lower level space. Large roof lights give views upwards to the fine detailing of the existing listed building.
